Ballistic Test • Ammunition: .44 Magnum • 5 impact locations: Front / Rear / Left / Right / Crown • Backface Deformation (BFD): < 25.4 mm (1 inch) at all impact points
Helmet Weight • Less than 1.5 kg
⚠️ Professional Note
We continue to see many people referring to ballistic helmets as "NIJ IIIA." This is incorrect.
Under NIJ 0106.01 (Ballistic Helmets), the protection classifications are Type I, Type IIA, and Type II. There is no Level IIIA designation for helmets.
Level IIIA belongs to the NIJ body armor standard (NIJ 0101 series), not the helmet standard.
